I'm allowed to talk about Viggo Mortensen because he is half-Danish, which means semi-Nordic, which means yes please and I'm not cheating on this challenge :)
My favourite is when he is Aragorn, but it's not necessarily essential. The Aragorn thing really appeals to my inner nerd but the very best thing would be Aragorn-plus-a-little-less-beard-plus-a-little-more-regularity-when-it-comes-to-brushing-his-teeth. Mmm.
Do you have a favourite Scandinavian actor? I considered writing a post about Alexander Skarsgård before doing some googling and realising that I'm actually in love with the majority of his family. Maybe S should have been for 'Skarsgård family' but that's kind of creepy...
inspire nordic
My cousin worked w/ Viggo on a movie many, many years ago (she was a production assistant). She said he's a method actor and was extremely unkempt, dirty and surly the entire time, in order to stay in character.
ReplyDeleteIn a good way? I wish I could show you the face I made to that comment. It was dissapointment mixed with slightly-grossed-out mixed with intrigue. It's an interesting combination :)
DeleteI like Viggo in anything. He's a true Renaissance Man (and pretty easy on the eyes).
ReplyDelete:) what a surprise
ReplyDeletei guess i have never been such a big fan and haven't googled the actors from lord of the rings :)
i didn't know that he is from danish origin
cheers :)
He's a writer, singer, poet, photographer, on top of being a actor. If all you know of is LOTR then you have truly missed out on Viggo. He speaks several languages so he works all over the world. He's the cream of the crop as far as actor's go. Do yourself a favor and spend some time watching some of the movies he's in. Read some of his poetry & literature. Look at his art work & photography. He's truly a renaissance man. God has blessed him well.
DeleteSince I don't know many Scandinavian actors. Mine would have to be Viggo.
ReplyDeleteDoes Alexander Skarsgård play Eric Northman on True Blood?
I checked and the movie was Fresh Horses. That was shot in Kentucky, I remember when Diane lived there in 1987/88. I'm sure he's lovely in real life, but as I said, he was staying in character when she met him.
ReplyDeleteI have two favorites. Stellan Skarsgard (I would have loved that family post you decided not to do :) ) and Peter Stormare (he totally embodied the Italian mobster he played in Prison Break). Both Swedish.
ReplyDeleteYou never cheat when you talk about Viggo. He is a true artist in every sense.
ReplyDeleteViggo is easy on the eyes...
ReplyDeleteI do love Viggo Mortensen. He brings such character into his acting. And I love him as Aragorn... :)
ReplyDeleteAlexander Skarsgaard is great in anything I have seen him in (which admittedly isn't much). I also like Mads Mikkelson, who I think is Danish, which per your criteria counts as Scandanavian.
ReplyDeleteViggo is ok, I guess ;)
I loved him as Aragorn too but I think he had the perfect amount of beard lol!
ReplyDeleteViggo is a great-lloking man. Well picked. Blog on!

I do not know the actor's name, but he was Wulf Wine in "13th Warrior". As the leader of 12 Nordic giants and one Antonio Banderas, this actor was powerful in his silence.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how different a person looks onstage with all their makeup versus in real life.

I love Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn, one of my favourites in Lord of the Rings :) Like Hazel, I quite like his beard to, but each to their own :)
ReplyDeleteI love Viggo in anything and everything.....and nothing at all...lol. He is the quintessential Renaissance Man, eloquent, articulate, and everyone who works with him loves him. I like him best clean-shaven. Although he loves to go barefoot, he is very clean--he has had to look dirty and grimy for several movies (LOTR, The Road, as 2 egs). He has commented in interviews that he washes out his own underwear when staying in hotels!! I got quite a laugh out of that!
